I was so thrilled that this Robin has chosen my porch to raise her family. The previous year, a Robin made a nest in a hanging basket just over this same location. I wondered if this was the same Robin. The nest then was much higher off the ground so it was difficult at best to get pictures. There were problems too. The hanging basket wasn't much protection during our severe thunderstorms. One of the wires holding the basket broke - and I rewired the basket as it was hanging there. The Robins stayed but one of the babies didn't make it. After that experience - I knew I would be watching out for this small family every day. |
The very next day, there were two eggs in the nest! The mother Robin didn't spend the night on the first egg - but she was back on the nest today. |
Another egg today! I wonder how many she'll have? Mother Robin spent the night on the nest. She spent the last few minutes before sunset sitting in a limb of a tree outside of the computer room window blessing out Phelix, my precious one-eyed cat, who was sitting there. (The nest isn't visible from that window.) She told Phelix that he better watch his step. (And, of course, he will - as he won't be allowed on the porch - or in the front yard - until the babies fly away). If I'm peering out of the blinds checking on the nest, Phelix stands on his hind legs - front paws reaching as far up my leg as possible -- hoping I will pick him up and let him look too. He is most interested in this whole process. |
Four eggs!
